Common Questions about Pastoral Care
Where is my Serial Number? In Pastoral Care, go to the Help - About window and you will
find the serial number of your software. It is also printed on the Inside of the
Pastoral Care 10 box, or click on Registration from the main menu of version 10.
Experimenting with Pastoral Care. The best way to try out the features of Pastoral Care is
to load the Training Data. Choose File - Load New Church - Training Data
from the main menu. This will load a sample church into the program with
data in all areas of the program for testing.
Why do I need to register to download an update? At Pastoral Care, we like to provide the best possible service. To this we need to communicate with our users effectively. A part of this communication, is understanding the update requirements. By registering, you are indicating to us that a patch is being downloaded. This gives us positive feedback that a patch is on the internet, and that there is interest in the fixes it provides. Another reason we like you to register is so that we have current up to date contact information available to our organisation. This is not used for annoying sales questionnaires, or constant marketing. We use this contact information for only 2 purposes.
What
Environment does
Pastoral
Care work
in?
Because Pastoral Care uses the latest technology it requires an up
to date Windows operating System. As a guide Pastoral Care will work on any Windows
computer, which has Internet Explorer 5 or greater installed on it. Internet
explorer 5 came standard with Windows 98. Apart
from being an Internet tool the Internet explorer installation updates the
operating system so that new data manipulation technology software can run on
all Windows operating systems from Windows 98 onwards. When installing Pastoral
Care if it finds the user needs to update their Windows environment the
user will be prompted to do this and the installation program will be cancelled.
Can
my previous Version data be converted to the new technology of PC 9re?
Yes, PC 9re comes with a separate conversion program, which
will convert data from version 6, 7 and 2002 to the new PC 9re format. The
conversion program does not convert editions earlier than version 6 as all
versions before PC6 where not Y2K compliant.
Is
PC 9re a network program?
Yes, PC 9re is a complete network solution. For example,
you can have more than one user editing different family files while another
user is running reports.
What
does it cost for a Network License?
It is free with your single purchase of Pastoral Care 9re.
This concept can cause confusion, as it is normal to charge for each workstation
using the program. We know of no other Church Management Software in the world
offering this free network license. You are able to install PC 9re on as many
computers in your church at no extra cost on the condition it is used only
by the local church that purchased the program.
How
many computers can I install Pastoral Care on after purchasing only one program?
As with the network license, Pastoral Care Ministries allows
you to install the program on as many computers as you want at no extra cost on
the condition it is only used by the local church, which purchased the program.
Are
updates available to PC 9re and how costly are they?
Updates are placed for download from the Internet at www.pastoralcare.com.au
They are free and we encourage the church checks every couple of months for the
free updates
Where
is the manual to PC 9re located?
An option is available during the installation program to
install the Manual on the users computer. The manual can then be assessed from
the Start – Programs section of your windows menu. The manual is also located on
the CDROM in both Word and PDF format. We allow you to print as
many copies of the manual that you require. Can
Pastoral Care be used for any denomination?
Yes, PC 9re like no other edition is fully configurable to
not only the type of data each denomination requires but also to the individual
needs of the church.
I have a large church using PC7 at the moment, when I back up the data for
either storage or transferring to another computer it uses many floppy disks.
Will PC 9re (having unlimited data) use
more disks than before?
No, PC9re has compression built into the
backup program, what took 8 backup floppies in PC7 can be stored on a single
floppy from PC 9re. Other features in the backup/Restore
program include data integrity checks. This process insures higher protection for the church as each byte on
the backup disk is examined to have no faults.
Where
has Spiritual Dates gone in PC2002?
In PC7 the program allowed 4 spiritual dates, two of which
had a tagging function for each individual. PC2002 has now personal dates that
can be attached to an individual. This is where you will find PC7 spiritual
dates once PC7 data has been converted. The amount of individual personal dates
allowed is unlimited and all dates have a tagging function attached to them. What
exports are available from
Pastoral Care?
From Pastoral Care 2002 onwards, exports can be created from
any report from within the Report Viewer. These can be to TXT, RTF, PDF, EXCEL and HTML. All reports in Pastoral Care can be saved and loaded back into the Pastoral Care report
viewer for exporting or printing at a latter date.
Does Pastoral
Care support an import option if I am upgrading from another
product?
Yes, PC 9re will import a comma and quote delimited file created in another
program. This import function is available from the family editor area of the
program by selecting the file menu and choosing the import option.
